This intimate A4 print begins with the artist’s own dry point etching—an impression made by hand, rich with the textures and hesitations of traditional printmaking. From this base, a layered conversation unfolds, centred on a single word: Role.

What does it mean to hold a role? To perform one? To question it? The composition dances with that inquiry, inviting viewers to reflect on the subtle architecture of identity, expectation, and self-perception that roles—both assigned and assumed—create.

The background hums with a whimsical energy, textured and expressive. Into this field, spidery letterforms weave in and out, hesitant yet deliberate, gestural yet loaded. Words in visual art often sit awkwardly, but here they inhabit the space with an enigmatic, lyrical weight—suggesting that meaning doesn’t have to shout to be heard.

Marrying the tactile tradition of dry point etching with digital mark-making, the result is an abstract reflection that’s both playful and contemplative. The print occupies a liminal space between language and image, gesture and thought.

Strictly limited to thirty prints, each edition is signed and numbered by the artist. Printed in-studio using high-quality pigment inks on cotton rag paper, this work carries forward centuries of printmaking tradition—updated with a contemporary hand and an open mind.
